INGREDIENTS :

  • 16 ounces rigatoni, ziti or penne pasta, uncooked
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 (24 ounce) jars marinara sauce (or favorite spaghetti sauce)
  • 2 and 1/2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 2 and 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 1 and 1/4 cups sliced pepperoni

Optional garnish:

  • Freshly grated Parmesan cheese

INSTRUCTIONS :

  • Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. A baking dish measuring 9 inches by 13 inches should be sprayed with non-stick cooking spray or lightly brushed with melted butter.
  • Cook the pasta until it reaches the al dente stage, as directed on the package. Drain, then set aside for later use.
  • The ground beef, chopped onions, minced garlic, and both salt and pepper should be added to a large skillet that has been heated over medium heat and contains olive oil. Ensure that the meat is no longer pink in color. Remove any grease that may be present.

  • Once the casserole dish has been prepared, transfer the mixture to it and smooth it out evenly.

  • Sprinkle the remaining one and a quarter cups of mozzarella cheese on top.
  • Place the pepperoni slices in a single layer on top of the shredded cheese, and then sprinkle the remaining Italian seasoning on top of the pepperoni slices.
  • Oven bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 25 to 30 minutes with the lid off. It is important that the cheese is melted, and that the sauce is heated all the way through to the center.
  • You can enjoy this dish by topping it with freshly grated Parmesan cheese and chopped parsley, although it is not required.
