INSTRUCTIONS
Get your waffle maker out of the back of your cabinets and preheat it. For simpler cleanup, I lay parchment or wax paper under the waffle machine.
Step 1
Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, sugars, and cocoa in a small basin. Mix oil, eggs, vanilla, and buttermilk in another basin.
Step 2
Mix the wet and dry ingredients together until they are just mixed. It will have lumps in it. Add the chocolate chips and mix them in.
Step 3
The amount of batter you need may change based on the size of your waffle iron. About two thirds of a cup was enough for one waffle.
Step 4
Put batter on a hot waffle iron, and then add a handful of chocolate chips spread out evenly.
Step 5
Leave the waffle pan closed and wait for it to cook. This could take 4 to 7 minutes. Mine are perfect right after the steam stops.
Step 6
Carefully take waffle from iron and place in a single layer on a cookie cooling rack-lined baking sheet. Stay heated in a 200-degree oven until serving.
Step 7
Garnish waffles with strawberries, whipped cream, and chocolate sauce. This created 5 waffles in my iron, although a large Belgian waffle iron may only make 3.
