Green Bean Tater Tot Casserole Recipe

A quick and family-friendly evening dinner is Classic Tater Tot Casserole with creamy ground beef, green beans, cheese, and tater tots.


– 2 lbs. ground beef – 1 onion, chopped – 1 teaspoon Kosher salt – 1/2 teaspoon black pepper – 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder – 1 can cream of chicken or mushroom soup – 1 cup sour cream – 1 cup milk – 2 cans low sodium green beans (or 16 oz package frozen green beans) – 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (I used a mixture of mild and sharp) – 1 bag frozen tater tot


It will take about 10 minutes of cooking in a big skillet until the beef and onions are no longer pink. Take out the fat.  

Step 1

Salt, pepper, and garlic powder can be used to season. Fill a 9-by-13-inch pan, two 8-inch pans, or two 9-inch pie plates with the meat mixture.

Step 2

Cream soup, sour cream, and milk should all be mixed together in a bowl. Pour over the hamburger.

Step 3

Place the green beans on top of the soup mixture. Put cheese shreds on top of the green beans.

Step 4

Freeze or put in the fridge until you're ready to bake. Before baking, put a frozen dish in the fridge overnight to thaw.  

Step 5

Heat the oven to 350 degrees when you're ready to bake. Put the tater tots on top of the cheese.  

Step 6

If you take it out of the fridge right away, put the pan in the oven right away so it can warm up with the heat.  

Step 7

If you're baking it right after taking it out of the fridge, it will take about 45 minutes to an hour. If you're baking it while the beef is still warm, it will only take 40 minutes.
