Many such recipes are popular in Romania. These delicate, flaky buns are amazing. I cherish these ancient recipes.
– 4½ cups all-purpose flour– ¾ cup cake flour– 2¼ teaspoon instant yeast– ½ teaspoon salt– 4 tablespoons white sugar– 2 cups milk– 3 large egg– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract– ½ cup vegetable oil– orange zest – 1 cup mixed berry jam– ¼ cup butter – 1 egg– powdered sugar
Ingredient
1
Mix all dry ingredients. Add lukewarm milk, eggs, vanilla, vegetable oil, and orange zest.
2
Knead this by hand or using a mixer to simplify. Mix the dough smooth, adding flour as needed. The dough should be slightly sticky.
3
Rest the dough in an oiled basin in a warm place. Rest the dough for an hour to double in size. Punch down and roll the dough on a lightly floured board.
4
Roll it into a 14-by-18-inch rectangle. It should be 1/2 inch thick. Cut the dough into 2 3/4 × 2 3/4 inch squares with a pastry cutter, pizza cutter, or knife.
5
Make a small depression in each square with your fingertips and place 1 tsp jam in the center. Fold each square in half and crimp the ends.
6
Sufficient stickiness is necessary for the dough to adhere to one another. Continue in this manner until all rolls are prepared.
7
To prevent the rolls from sticking together, place the dough onto a skillet that has been buttered and brush the sides with additional butter.
8
Adjust oven temperature to 350 F. After giving them a quick egg wash, give them another twenty minutes to rest. They'll ascend a little higher.
9
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until nicely browned and caramelized. Garnish with powdered sugar and serve.
